Corey Taylor - Duality - Isolated Vocal Analysis - Slipknot - Singing Reaction & Production Tips

Hey! Chris Liepe here.

Corey Taylor’s un-matched distorted and ‘screaming’ vocals are heard in great detail when you’re able to examine the studio isolated vocal tracks. It’s also interesting to peel back the intricate layers that go into creating the vocal sound you hear in the full mix.

It’s not as simple as it initially sounds. There’s a lot of clean singing, some dialed-in audio distortion and other subtle production tricks that all work together to bring out the threatening, yet most enjoyable vocal sound of Corey Taylor.

Btw… Corey doesn’t use your typical ‘fry’ or ‘false cord’ techniques. Corey has his own brand of distorted vocals. Let’s figure out how he does it so we can try stuff with our own voices!

By going through these isolated tracks with me, you’ll walk away with some practical things to try with your own voice and recording setup that will definitely level up your aggressive vocals and production!

Let me know how this video was useful to you!
