These rare recordings will pull you in, help you sing

I’ve been on a bit of an MJ kick lately. Part of it is that I got several songs delivered to me in a rare ‘original studio multitracks’ format and have been geeking out like I’m 13 years old 🙂 But the other part of my deep dive season on MJ is that with all of these listening sessions, I pull more and more amazing subtleties out of the way he worked as a vocalist that continue to majorly inspire me!

Michael Jackson’s vocal performances could embody so many different characters and emotions as he journeyed through a song. Part of what makes MJ so interesting is that you can feel like you are part of the angsty conversation going on in his head, oozing out of his voice as you listen. He pulls you in with every word and every phrase!

He was simultaneously relatable on an emotional level while on a completely other planet with his musical genius and technical ability.

In these studio multitracks of Liberian Girl, we get to hear the unprocessed lead vocals. This means that we get to notice how he works the mic, the full range of his dynamics as he goes from character to character with this voice, and a number of easter eggs found between the sung phrases!

Join me as we explore the whole song together!
