What Made Kurt's Screams So Unique?

There is an extra level of ‘musical vulnerability’ present in the way Kurt Cobain opens up on mic. He can sound simultaneously abandoned and out of control AND, at the same time, perfectly on pitch and rhythmically in the pocket. There are not a lot of singers who can do that.
