Try This When You Hurt Your Voice
When you overdo it, or try something new with your voice and feel something weird and uncomfortable, your first and sometimes sustained reaction is to enter into a bit of a panic.
“What did I just do?” “Did I mess something up?” “Maybe I shouldn’t speak… Go to the doctor… Have surgery.. AHHH”
The reality is that yes, sometimes people really do have sustained vocal injuries and problems that require medical attention or more extreme rest and recovery periods, but most of the time, adjusting a few things about your approach and mindset (along with a little healthy rest) is enough to get your voice back on track.
Even if you feel like you’ve been having problems with your voice for awhile now, there’s likely nothing physically wrong! I’ve seen it over and over again!
