What's It Take To Get Good At Singing? (Absolutely NOT What Most People Think) Try THIS Instead!
The other day, I typed “What’s it take to get really good at singing” into Google just for fun… I wanted to see the first few things that popped up.
It wasn’t fun. It was actually kinda sad because people are being severely mislead and set up for discouragement! Here was the first thing to pop up (UGH):
“…Having consistent volume, tone, pitching, support, and style at all times, and it will also help to know what singing conditions are most conducive to consistent singing. To improve your singing voice, aim for a consistent sound when you practice – like you would with any instrument.”
There was also a checklist that included stuff like “hydrate your voice, don’t sing if it hurts, avoid harmful substances etc…”
The reason that this information made me sad is because most things that popped up were being framed as PURSUITS.
What is being communicated is this: “If I want to be a good singer, I need to pursue good tone, consistency, good pitch …At all times!?”
THIS IS HORRIBLE! Attributes of a good singer are RESULTS of key mindsets and disciplines. Attributes are not something to be pursued but results of the correct pursuits! << I can’t bold that statement enough!!
Don’t aim for consistent sound when you practice!! (facepalm) I got so irritated after doing this little search, I made a video about what is REALLY takes to get good and consistently improve with your singing voice. Here it is:
